The letter F...

The graphic novel that I mentioned a few posts back has been put on the back burner. I've now been set to the task of creating an Animal Alphabet book. So I've been looking at lots of pictures of animals and trying to get the shapes of things right. Maybe a trip to the zoo is in order.

Monster Thursday

Thursday is a good day for monsters, no?

I've been watching episodes of the BBC's "Wives and Daughters" whilst I work. The spectacular hair-dos inspired this drawing... I think there will be more giant hair-do drawings on the way.

I've been in the thick of getting my portfolio ready for the SCBWI summer conference... these sketchbook doodles have been providing a nice break from the all the painting and inking and photoshopping. Phew! I'll post some works in progress soon and hopefully will have my website revamped in the next few weeks. And now... back to the grind...

Illustration Friday: Paisley

I think that maybe Mama bear and Baby bear are heading to a summertime picnic where they will sip lemonade and eat strawberry rhubarb pie. Mmmm.... I think I'll join them.

Hello bunny!

Character sketches

I have an idea for a picture book and I'm trying to figure out the main character.... a bored and surly little boy... maybe named Andy McPhee, or Monty Maloy... or something like that...

Test page

I'm in the beginning stages of a graphic novel project at work. The writing isn't finished yet, but I've been doing some test pages in order to get a better feel for pacing, as well as to figure out the color palette and to try different ways of handling the color. I've read quite a few graphic novels, but creating one is completely new to me... An exciting (and sort of overwhelming) project.
