L.A, updated web portfolio, and Etsy!

Here's a detail of the illustration I'm working on today... one of the last pieces to make it into my portfolio before I head to the conference in L.A. next week. Wait a minute... next week!?!?!!! Holy cow.... seriously? Yikes!

I've added some new pieces to my portfolio. You can see them here.

And in other exciting news... My brother opened a cool new Etsy shop called Verge and Foliot. He has some really beautiful things for sale that would make great gifts, especially for guys! Check it out!

Bear's Fine Books

Happy Friday to you! Here's the finished version of the work in progress I posted a few days ago. (At least, I think its finished).

On another note, I just finished reading YA author, Carolyn Mackler's book, "The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things". A great read! I saw her speak at the SCBWI summer conference last year and she was delightful!

I hope you enjoy your weekend! Perhaps a trip to the book store is in order?

A bit of inspiration...

I am so very smitten with the illustrations of Holly Hobbie and Julia Denos! And also with the new chalk pastels and tubes of Holbein watercolors that I bought over the weekend. I took this photo of yarn in Peru... such great colors! (And they're all made using natural dyes). The bowl at the top of the photo is full of little beetles that are used to make red dye.
